Ladies of Landsat
Ladies of Landsat is a Twitter-based organization that was founded on Twitter in 2018 by Kate Fickas, who was joined by Morgan Crowley shortly after. It is now led by Morgan, Kate, Crista Straub, Flávia Mendes, Matilda Anokye, Meghan Halabisky, Sarah Schenkein, and Sheryl Reyes (see our About Us page for all of our amazing past and present leaders!) who all hope to make the field of remote sensing and earth observation more equitable and inclusive for underrepresented scientists. The field of remote sensing has been dominated by the voices of those who have historically held positions of power and we work from multiple directions to achieve our broader mission to make an impact on the field. First, we work bottom-up to amplify the representation of women and other underrepresented scientists in earth observation science. Second, we lead top-down calls for action from leaders in power and our active allies who have the capacity to change the status quo when it comes to diversity, equity, justice and inclusion (DEJI) in remote sensing.
